General Medicine • Purification (Shodhana) • Pacification (Shamana)
Kayachikitsa is the main branch of Ayurveda according to Acharya Charak and it deals with adult multisystemic illnesses. It addresses the treatment of the illness by means of Shodhana (purification), Shamana (pacification), and Satwawajaya (counselling). Medication, behavioural, psychological, and lifestyle management are used in these applications.
"Kaya Chikitsa is often called the 'General Medicine' of Ayurveda, but 'Kaya' primarily refers to 'Agni' (Digestive Fire). Treating the Agni treats the whole body!"
Numerous medications, such as vati (tablets), kashaya (decoctions), churna (powders), bhasma, asava, arista, ghruta, guggulus, etc., are used in pharmacological intervention. The system’s strength is its ability to provide high safety margins, personalised therapy that is efficient and economical.
