This discipline of Ayurvedic Science deals with purificatory measures. The principle of treatment depicted in this discipline is applied by using Snehana, Swedana, Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, Rakta Mokshana, etc. The criteria of selection of the patient are integral before the prescription of the above therapies. After that, treatment is prescribed by expert clinicians.

The term Panchakarma refers to Pancha – Five & Karma  – the modality which brings homeostasis to the body. The five measures are Vamana Karma(Therapeutic Emesis), Virechana karma(Therapeutic Purgation), Basti Karma includes both Anuvasana and Niruha (Therapeutic enema) and Nasya Karma(Administration of drugs by the route of nasal cavity).
