The five detoxifications together are called Panchakarma. All five detoxing treatments according to classics are performed in the Sri Sri Ayurveda Hospital panchakarma department. Even for a disease-free person, Ayurveda encourages frequent cleansing since it helps to enhance immunity and moreover to preserve the health state in them.

The following are the various panchakarma treatments:

  1. Basti (Enema Treatment)
  2. Vamana (Emesis Therapy)
  3. Virechana (Purgation therapy)
  4. Nasya (Medicated Nasal Instillation)
  5. Raktamokshana (Blood-letting Therapy)

Vamana

  1. Vamana helps in the elimination of physiologically stored Kapha dosha from the body, therefore preventing sickness and maintaining health.
  2. Expelling doshas / toxins through the mouth. Toxins or vitiated doshas are introduced to the stomach before producing Vamana.
  3. Effective in bronchial asthma, chronic cough, sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, urticaria, digestive disorders, and other conditions.

Basti

  1. Basti helps in the elimination of physiologically exacerbated Vata dosha from the body, thereby avoiding diseases and prolonging life.
  2. By infusing medicinal solutions or oils/ghee through the anus, Basti karma expels body toxins and vitiated doshas.
  3. The Basti technique is extremely successful in treating all sorts of joint problems (like rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gouty arthritis etc.) lumbar spondylosis, sciatica, obesity, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation, weakness, and so on.

Virechan

  1. Virechana facilitates in the elimination of biologically stored Pitta dosha from the body, consequently preventing illness and maintaining good health.
  2. Through purgation, Virechana expels the vitiated doshas and impurities. This therapy can be used as a solo detoxification treatment or as a follow-up treatment after Vamana to give satisfactory detoxification.
  3. Effective in bronchial asthma, cough, skin problems (psoriasis, dermatitis, allergy), lumbar septic arthritis, obesity, gastritis, digestive illnesses, as well as other diseases.
